A nifty box of [livejournal.com profile] leviosa2016 swag was waiting for me when I got back from vacation! And I have no idea why this photo is sideways on LJ when it looks normal on my computer.

There is one thing I still don't feel comfortable about - do I go as the 'real me' or as Oakstone? I'd be intersted in hearing how other people handle their identities at cons. If I go as the real me, I know I'll feel compelled to share my pseud during fandom discussions, etc. then the two things are linked which I don't feel comfortable with - especially since I'm hoping to have my manuscript for my YA novel finsihed soon.

Maybe you can just introduce yourself as "Oak" or "Marty?"

I think that will likely be the best choice - going as Marty/Oak. We'll see...

For the only con I've gone (Terminus) I went as "Ines". But then, I've always used my real name just as much as I use capitu, so I didn't think of it. They asked me for my name for my tag card and I put "Ines" then as I started meeting people I had to explain I was capitu. Maybe for that reason is easier to go with the lj name?

So much fun though!

This is such a great question and one I wonder about, too. I don't have a novel, but I tend to keep my "real" and LJ lives separate because this is my safe space and I like keeping it that way. I have only ever met two fandom people and I find myself using my real name with them.

I'm not worried about other fandom folks knowing who I am so much as I am worried about non-fandom folk knowing about Fantasyfiend09.

And isn't that a mouthful? Why didn't I choose a cute, short username? And I am NOT going by Fantasy (porn star name much?), so that leaves Fiend, which isn't very friendly either. *sigh* I so need to rename my account.

My apologies! Somehow I missed this post. I think Fiend would be kind of a fun name to go by - or 'Fiendish'. Oakstone is something I just grabbed when I thought I would be posting a single story on FF. Little did I know that I would keep on writing and keep on using it, if I had known I probably would've given it more than 12 seconds of thought.

belatedly - I listed myself as Lokifan on my badge etc at both my HP cons and that was all cool. Lots of other people did too (because it's easier to find your friends that way) and even when I'd introduced myself I was called Loki more often than not :)
