Was browsing through LJ stat information last night and came across this graph showing LJ users by age. What happened in 1980 that produced such a spike?

My best guess is that LJ used to have a default date (1980) in the sign up and most people didn't bother to change it when signing up. Open to other ideas of how such a statistical anomaly could occur.

1980 = Carter was president, U.S. boycotted the Olympics, the birth of CNN and a bunch of hyper-creative people destined to share their fandoms were born?
