I did a major retreat from fandom in 2019 for real life reasons and just hesitancy about where to go next. It was a shock of reality when I realized three weeks ago that I hadn't written a single fic this year. With a boost of support from Omi I decided to finish the last chapter of Firebond, the Harry/Draco fic that I started in 2012 and walked away from in 2015. It has truly been a weight on me, knowing that it was so close to being finished and not quite managing to do it. So 11,300 words later, Firebond is NO LONGER A WIP and it is a crazy good feeling.

Here is to hoping that 2020 brings inspiration for new stories and fics. I feel I need a new fandom but not sure where to turn to find it.

In a lovely change from the last few months, I've been writing WORDS! Truly excited to be creating again. Last month I wrote two stories - a Harry/Draco pinch-hit for Remix and a Sam/Steve (Avengers) story that I've been wanting to write for ages!

Sea Stones (Harry/Draco)
This is a remix of Persephoneapple's lovely and heartbreaking Secret of the Sea. Be sure to read her original because she tells a wonderful story of recovery from loss.

A03 Link - 2,400 word count - Rating: G - Major character death & Mpreg & Kidfic
When death comes unexpectedly the lives of loved ones are torn apart until the healing slowly begins.

Connections (Sam/Steve)
This is my only second story set in the Avengers fandom. This one, like the previous one (Taps) is set in the Captain America: The Winter Solider timeline. I'm fairly obsessed with a melancholy Steve trying to adapt to a new century. In Connections, Sam reaches out and a friendship begins.

AO3 Link - 9,600 word count - Rating G - R
eferences to past Steve/Bucky; Sam/Riley
Sam Wilson’s brief encounter with Steve Rogers on the Capitol Mall leads to an unexpected friendship. Sam hopes that there might be a chance for more, but someone from Steve’s past is standing in the way.

Oh! And Snowgall wrote me a WONDERFUL reimix of a tiny little drabble I did ages ago for a comment fest! I LOVE her story - it matches my style so wonderfully and I can't believe it is only her second story ever!. Go read it! - Bite Your Tongue. If you want to read my original (which I'd completely forgotten about, it is here.)

Today's challenge:In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Draft a critical essay about a particular media. Put together a picspam or a fanmix...

Today's was easy and lovely because @capitu's Day Six fandom request was for dialogue-only drabbles so I get to fulfill her request while filling my day seven challenge! Just a little Harry/Draco interaction. 200 words.

I posted a writing ask meme over on Tumblr and [livejournal.com profile] ani_mage prompted me with # 91 "I remember everything" and the pairing Harry/Draco or Scorpius/Albus. I decided to incorporate both pairings :) (not incesty, just both pairings). At 1,200 words it is a tad (just a tad) longer than a drabble though. AND I can't figure out how to do a damn cut post on Tumblr ([livejournal.com profile] dicta_contrion add that to your Tumblr 101 help!)

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] impishtubist gave me the prompt "I'm dying" for Mark/Chris in the Martian fandom. It is posted here

Here's the reveal list with all the wonderful fics and art - I admit I've only read a few so far. December is just a vague traumatic memory of trying to finish Solder. I'll post a rec list once I've read them. Be sure to take a peek at i[livejournal.com profile] isinuyasha's beautiful "Reading in the Snow" that she gifted me with!

Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] tryslora
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco (mentions of Ron/Hermione; Bill/Fleur; and past Draco/Astoria)
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~35,000
Warnings: EWE, NC17, potion/alcohol addiction and recovery, nipple play, rimming, dirty talk [in hindsight, I don't think it was that dirty, I think I fail at writing dirty, it was more like slightly suggestive]
Content/Enticements: pining, angst, UST, artist!Harry, cursebreaker!Draco, reconciliation, love, forgiveness, did I mention UST?
Summary: Seven years ago, Harry disappeared out of Draco and Scorpius's life without a trace after Harry's addictions destroyed his and Draco's marriage. Now, Harry’s back, and Draco wants to believe he’s changed. But Harry isn’t the only one haunted by the past.
Author's Notes: Tryslora, I was absolutely thrilled (and terrified) at the opportunity to create a gift!fic for you. You have contributed so much to the HP fandom that it was intimidating dreaming of a story worthy of you. I loved your listed likes and prompts (especially the collar fic suggestion, I want to read that story!) and, although I didn’t follow the specific prompts, I hope I hit upon many of your likes.

To my betas, [livejournal.com profile] omi_ohmy and [livejournal.com profile] gracerene: what a tremendous ride these last few days have been. I owe you a debt that I can’t possibly repay. I would still be flailing in an ocean of words if it weren’t for you both. Thank you so much. Post reveal update: I really understated how much Omi and Grace did for this story. This was a pinch-hit that I got at the end of November and the length of the story just exploded as I tried to bring everything together without rushing the plot. Omi and Grace were in the fic editing and giving suggestions as I was still struggling to finish.

There are some fics that you wish that you could put into a binding and have on your bookshelf so that it is always close to you. Or at very least, have it on your device so that you can re-read your favorite bits again and again.

Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost by [livejournal.com profile] bsmog is one of those fics for me.

If you haven't read it, you should start it tonight. It is a beautiful story set five years after Hogwarts. I was really surprised tonight, as I sat down to re-read it, that it is only 91,000 words - in my head it was twice that long because Bsmog weaves such a beautiful story that pulls you in and makes you fall in love. Harry as mountain guide is wonderful and Draco is the narrator who helps Harry reconnect with Ron and Hermione after disappearing with only a note to say good-bye. The whole thing is set in Tanzania and a climb up Kilimanjaro.

Story Summary: Tired of only being the Boy Who Lived, Harry disappears after the war, leaving only a mysterious letter behind. Five years later, Draco and his unlikely friends [Hermione and Ron] go on holiday and find magic where there is none and more on a mountain in Africa. EWE.

Author Note: So many thanks are owed to [livejournal.com profile] omi_ohmy for her never-ending cheerleading for this story AND her beta and Brit!Picking skills. She encouraged me to keep going even after I'd given up on the story. Before I'd even left my bed this morning, I read two wonderful stories that has already put the seal on the fact that today is going to be a good day. [livejournal.com profile] reedenryete has just started writing Harry/Draco and her first two offerings are wonderful:

Keep Your Head Up - 2,500 word ficlet. Harry wakes up to find a surprise (not that kind! This story is PG-13), but it is romantic and beautiful.

Mind Your Language (There are Children Present) - 3,200 words -What it would be like if adult Harry/Draco time traveled back to 3rd Year Harry and Draco and gave them a glimpse of things to come? Read this and find out - so funny!

In the past week or so I've been rather possessed by the Christina Aguilera/Great Big World's Say Something song. Couldn't get it out of my head that it would make for an angsty H/D fic... so I wrote this (and I never write song!fics, so there you go, never say never). Doesn't capture quite what I wanted but I gave it a shot.

Title: Say Something

Fifteen months (give or take) after starting it, I've finally finished the second epilogue to Twist of Fate that addresses the alluded-to-but-never-read letter written by Albus Dumbledore. Posted as a Christmas gift to [livejournal.com profile] adigium21 who has been so very dedicated and careful in her translation of Twist into Spanish - thank you, Adigium21, can't tell you how thrilled I am that your yearlong+ project is almost finished.

If you have read Twist and would like to read this follow-up it is posted on FF and AO3

As much as I love Harry and Draco, I have a special place in my fandom heart for Cedric Diggory. So much unwritten potential in his character. For the last few days I haven't been able to get him out of my head, so I sat down this morning and wrote a little piece of Cedric!Love.

This little bit of fiction is for [livejournal.com profile] omi_ohmy for all the love and kindness she shares with all of us, throughout the year.

Title: Cedric's Letter

Following the lead of [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier's battle cry to reinvigorate fandoms, I am going to try to offer up more recs. As a relatively newby in this world I feel awkward making recommendations because I spend a fair amount of time discovering the 'old classics' that everyone has already read and raved about years ago.

Title: A Certain Kind of Memory (2008)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] jamie2109
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 96,000
Warnings: Major Character Death
Links: FF  / LJ / Link to PDF
Summary: What would you do if you were given less than a year to live?

This is a death-fic that is quite beautiful and in the end, healing. Jamie2109 describes it as uplifting, and yes, that fits, too. You'll need to have the Kleenex ready but it is also the story of falling in love, learning how to trust and letting go. Simply beautiful.

Thinking over this story more, I am reminded of Hazel, John Green's main character in Fault in Our Stars, she is afraid of the impact her death will have on her family and those around her. Harry faces a similar struggle and finds an imperfect way of to control the damage his death will have on those he loves [not a spoiler, his fate is revealed in prologue].

Title: Christmas in August
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Summary: When the wards protecting 12 Grimmauld Place fell, Hermione knew it could only mean one thing.
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Warning(s): Major Character Deaths. Suggested Suicide. Utterly Depressing.
Epilogue compliant: Nope
Word Count: 1,500

Heed the warnings!

I went for a walk tonight and saw a house, obviously unoccupied and probably foreclosed. In the yard there was a spruce tree still decorated with bright, shiny Christmas ball-ornaments. It struck me as so painfully sad: the thought of the former residents of the house and their holding onto hope as they decorated the tree, probably with the heartbreaking knowledge that they were soon going to lose their home. So, I got depressed and wrote this in my head and tapped it out as soon as I got home. Completely un-betaed.

Finally claiming the story I wrote for this year's Smoochfest. I hadn't planned on writing for the fest because I have too many WiPs in the works right now, then mid-May I saw the request for a pinchhit and the lovely prompt of Harry and Draco on a tropical island and knew I had to write it. Much thanks is owed to [livejournal.com profile] omi_ohmy for much-needed advice, betawork and cheerleading. All mistakes are mine. If you haven't dived into the Smoochfest fics yet, now is the time. Here are some of my favorites Smoochfest Recs One  and Recs Two: http://oakstone730.livejournal.com/22117.html (sorry, can't make that last link neat for some reason)

Much gratitude and thanks to the Wonderful Smoochfest Mods - who were very patient with me through my two extensions, and for all they do to make this the best H/D fest of the year.

Here are a few more of the stories I enjoyed the most from this year's Smoochfest ... I love that there are so many terrific writers out there creating this H/D world for us. My other rec post is here - http://oakstone730.livejournal.com/21833.html  (Sorry, I'm on my IPad and can't be bothered to make neat links).

A Piercing Comfort (44K - PG13) - http://hd-smoochfest.livejournal.com/125665.html - I absolutely loved Draco in this role as a Mind Healer / Counsellor. There is Angst in this, written so beautifully tht you wish it would go on for thousands of more words. The happy ending is just around the corner for Harry. And there is Art with this story...

The Tender Things (20K - NC17) http://hd-smoochfest.livejournal.com/109361.html - Lovely story. Everyone had told Harry to move on after Draco had been gone for years. He never gave up hope and one day Deacon Malloy moves in down the street.

Dangers of Faulty Handwriting (6K - NC17) http://hd-smoochfest.livejournal.com/111363.html - What rhymes with slick? Hmmm. Hilarious Crack Fun. Read it if you are having a bad day, guaranteed to make you smile by the time H & D reach Malfoy Manor...

If you haven't met Stanley yet...here are two representations of him... By DannyFranx: http://dannyfranx.livejournal.com/17384.html  and by DustMouth (scroll down through art for stanley - http://dustmouth.livejournal.com/17663.html )
