3rd Anniversary
Aug. 9th, 2014 07:59 pmSo, this month marks my third anniversary in fanfiction. Hard to imagine that three years ago I didn't know all this (swirls hands around laptop) existed. I've told my story before (August, 2011 I sat down and wrote an expanded ending to DH because I was so dissatisfied, learned about fanfiction afterwards, etc. etc).
I'm sitting here tonight wondering what I would be doing, who I would be if I hadn't been diverted down this alternate path. When you consider I'm nearly 49, my life had been set for quite a while. Husband, kids, avid reader, most importantly non-writer. I never wrote anything but press releases and newsletters in the previous twenty years, before that it was essays and term papers. Never creative writing. Always day-dreamed. Day-dreamed and what-if'd a lot, but never put words on the page.
And then Harry Potter happened. And now I can't stop writing. Still day dreaming but now I actually write up those day dreams. And I still watch people, and wonder about them, and make mental stories up about them...but now I put those stories on the page. And I love the process. I love the burning need to shape the story the way I need it to go. To mash two people together and find the words to make their story exciting.
So, I don't know where I would be if I hadn't discovered fanfiction but I'm very happy that I did, especially since of all the wonderful people I've met in this journey. I'm hesitant to mention names, because there are so many of you, and you ALL make my day brighter with your stories, rec, art and shared-enthusiasm - but especially
