Net Neutrality

Why is Net Neutrality so important? Neutrality basically ensures that all bytes are treated equally. Without neutrality US ISP providers will have the legal right to extort money from websites in order to ensure that their content is accessible in a timely manner - basically  it is "pay us $$$$ or no one will see your content."
